Legendary Punk Bands Headlining FireBall Festival, Taiwan’s First Music Festival Held in a Baseball Arena
Slated to be Taiwan's first music festival held in a baseball arena, FireBall Festival will see the legendary Japanese punk band ELLEGARDEN headline the two-day event at the Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium on November 23rd and 24th. Aside from being the first show ELLEGARDEN will play overseas since their 2008 hiatus, other renowned Japanese bands and artists such as HUSKING BEE, Kaela Kimura, and Hey-Smith will also be performing at the festival.
As the primary organizing force behind the festival, Fire EX., perhaps now Taiwan's most prominent pop-punk band, held the first iteration of FireBall Festival in their home town of Kaohsiung in 2017. The 2017 edition of FireBall featured celebrated international artists such as Sum 41, HYUKOH, and Supper Moment, and attracted roughly ten thousand attendees. Wanting to expand upon their initial success, Fire EX. decided to move this year's FireBall Festival to Taoyuan, with the hopes of finding an even larger and more accommodating locale for their event. The Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium ended up becoming the location that FireBall Festival needed, also making it the first music festival held within a baseball stadium in Taiwan. Keeping with the overall theme of baseball, the slogan for this edition of FireBall Festival was aptly created as "BAGA League". Early bird and discounted student tickets almost immediately sold out after they went on sale, even more amazing when one considers the fact that none of the lineup had been announced at the time these early bird tickets were sold.
Also on the roster of this year's FireBall Festival is an all-star lineup of Taiwan's most prominent pop-punk bands such as Empty Orio, Random, punkhoo, while Fire EX. will be co-headlining both days of the festival themselves. Other equally renowned local indie music legends Chthonic, Sheng-Xiang & Band, 88balaz, and Flesh Juicer will also take part performing. Keeping with the rising popularity of urban music in the recent years, FireBall will also see a new generation of Taiwan's hip-hop and R&B artists perform, including the widely popular 9m88 and ØZI.
FireBall Festival is also slated to have some of the biggest winners at this year's Golden Melody Awards appear, with both the winners of Best Mandarin and Hokkien male singers, Leo Wang and Ardor Huang being part of the festival's lineup. Leo Wang has announced that his longtime collaborator DJ Didilong will take to the stage as a special guest, while other winners of this year's Golden Melody Awards, Sunset Rollercoaster and YELLOW will also be playing as part of the two-day festival.
