嚴敏 Mia Min Yen

Mia Min Yen, also known as the "New York Mama" in Taiwan’s industry, originally from Taipei, now resides in New York. Her fascination with music began during junior high, influenced by her DJ aunt. Throughout high school, she immersed herself in live band performances, igniting a lifelong passion for music. Pursuing Mass Communication in New York, she was drawn by the city's vibrant music scene. Over nine years in New York, Mia transitioned from internships at renowned venues like The Living Room and Spike Hill to becoming a Talent Buyer, predominantly managing artists like 9m88, successfully promoting their talents beyond English-speaking markets to places like Japan.

Driven by the lack of Taiwanese representation in New York, Mia established Taiwanese Waves, initially as a showcase for Taiwanese talent at Central Park's SummerStage. Collaborating with artists like Bugs of Phonon, HUSH, and Desert Chang, she aimed to bridge the gap between East and West. Her passion for photography led her to serve as an official photographer for various festivals.

The inaugural Taiwanese Waves concert in 2016 attracted 4500 attendees, paving the way for subsequent editions featuring acts like Fire EX. and Dadado Huang. Mia's agency, Taiwanese Waves, is dedicated to promoting Taiwanese talent globally, organizing overseas tours and showcases, and managing artists like 9m88 and Sunset Rollercoaster.

Mia reflects on the journey of Taiwanese Waves, evolving from a mere showcase to a full-fledged talent agency. She discusses the challenges faced in bringing Taiwanese music to Central Park's SummerStage and the persistence required for its success. Additionally, she highlights her efforts in helping several Taiwanese bands book showcases at renowned platforms like KEXP and Audiotree.
