Outlet Drift

Outlet Drift is a three-piece grunge band comprising young members of the Amis tribe. Their music blends traditional Amis melodies with the raw intensity of punk and grunge, immersing listeners in a realm of fantastical creatures and chaos. Yet, beneath the surface of their unfamiliar language, lies a vivid portrayal of the harsh realities of survival. Through captivating performances, Outlet Drift channels the primal desires and anguished cries of indigenous youth in the urban landscape. Originally from the Pisirian and Dulan tribes in Taitung, they migrated to Taipei in pursuit of dreams, only to confront the jarring contrast between reality and imagination. Music became their solace and fearless means of confronting the brutal truths they faced.

In 2015, they released their debut album, Against the Current, collaborating with esteemed mastering engineer Don Bartley, known for his work with Silverchair, The Vines, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. They also sought the expertise of luthier Kanji Kawabata, recognized for crafting instruments for Lin Shengxiang and Ken Ohtake, to emphasize instrument tone. Outlet Drift challenges preconceived notions of indigenous music, transforming misty forest landscapes into psychedelic musical notes, offering an escape from the present world.

The trio actively participates in international music events and festivals, including Canadian Music Week, the Philippines Music Conference, and Primavera Sound. Through their global presence, they aim to share the rich traditions of the Amis tribe and offer their unique perspective to audiences worldwide.
